So, I'm guessing this is a pretty common problem.
I'm running Vista 32bit.
After several weeks of playing fine, last night my AVG popped up to tell me I had a virus in my lin.bin file.
So, I reinstalled lineage, and embarked upon the dreaded lin.bin error. Even with a clean install, my virus scanner is still telling me that the file is a virus. Upon disabling it, I get the "can't execute lin.bin" error.
Does anyone have any suggestions for anything that I might have missed? I've updated windows and my drivers, and my general method is:
uninstall Lineage
restart
reinstall Lineage
restart
Try to play
Repeat ad nauseum

You have to tell your AVG to ignore the files lin.bin, lineage.exe and the processes lin.bin and lineage.exe, otherwise your AVG keeps trashing the files. It's the same for most NC titles, depending on the AVG you use, even for Aion.

I have been telling it to ignore the files - I've gone so far as to disable it altogether at times.
That just creates the "lin.bin" error :(.

This happened to me yesterday also. I have since uninstalled AVG.

adding the entire Lineage directory to AVG exceptions solved the problem.

If you add it to the security shield exceptions, it is only "excepted" by that - I discovered this when the same error reoccurred, and on a hunch, I checked my quarantined files, as I'd had a scheduled scan run. The virus scanner will still consider the file to be an infection, so you have to add two exceptions.
