This is a bit off-topic... ummmm ya guess that's why it's posted here lol. We have a surveillance system at our house that is all set up. It's been set up for awhile but we are having difficulty setting up the online portion. Has anybody here ever donet his before?
The model of our system is a Samsung SHR-1041 With 4 channels. The only part we are having trouble with is the whole connecting it to a router and then to the website. Yes it came with an instruction book but the book is um... well. It looks like one of those google translations whenever we translate a korean lineage site lol. Whoever translated the manual seemed to have used google translate from japanese to english and wrote it verbatim. I.e. "To connecting to wide world of web you are to type in usatory screen of the line 3. Whammo! You are teh connected!" Please help >.<! Edit: I ask here because I know some of you guys are uber tech savvy

More than likely you will have to go into some menu screen on the device itself with the remote that came with it or the buttons on the device and assign it a static IP address that is part of your internal network. You will need and IP address, a subnet mask, and a gateway address. You can get the subnet and gateway from your computer in the properties of the TCP/IP connection in the properties of your "LAN" connection in Network Neighborhood (or similar if you are running Vista or 7). Or using "ipconfig /all" from a command prompt.
If you want to get to the camera views from the outside world (internet connection somewhere else) you will more than likely have to punch a hole in the firewall on your router (I am assuming it is an ISP provided router or some such) either by IP address or port forwarding. Something to at least get you started looking for readable directions.

Thanks for the information. We purchased our router from Best Buy though. The one the ISP gave was weak, signal doesnt reach throughout the house or outside. The router we use is a Linksys N Ultra Gigabit edition. Model number WRT320N. Idunno if this might clarify things. We have 2 computers hooked up directly and 2 laptops, PS3, Zune, DSi and a Wii hooked up wirelessly. It seems like the surveillance system is the only one that doesnt have the whole plug and play and has be input manually QQ

You might want to check this link. It basically describes what Baakir already told you, but maybe it's still worth something.
I do not know much of networking, but to be able to connect into your security device for the first time, manually set your computer into the same IP range with the device. According to that link, there's high chance it's using IP of 192.168.0.200 out of the box. So set your computer to temporarily to something like 192.168.0.5 and connect it directly into the device. If you manage to get to change the device's settings after doing above, switch it to use IP under your home network as Baakir guided you. Again, as Baakir told, you can find the settings for your home network by typing ipconfig /all in command prompt example on that another laptop that's still using the settings for your home network, or example check them from your router. If you look them up from your router, you're also able to check what IP would be free / reserve some IP for the security device. Then set that IP to the device + rest of the needed info with the laptop that's connected into it. After all is set in the device, unplug your laptop and set it back to it's original IP settings (most likely getting the IP by DHCP, A.K.A automatically from your router). But like I said, I am not that good when it comes to networking. Network wizards are free to correct me

K thanks to you both. A lot of what your saying seems to relate to the manual so maybe I can try to make sense of it now. Neverthless you guys have pointed me in the right direction, thanks a bunch
