I came across Giran Major yesterday and decided to talk to him, and discovered that you can be a citizen of a certain village/city, with some like 10k fee. What does this do? Do I get anything nice being the resident?

I might be part wrong but somebody will correct me if I am anywho.
You have to register to the town you hunt near the most. I normally am part of Weldern since I hunt there the most. If you hunt in the dungeons and area around the town you are registered to you get hidden points, these points are then added up and at the end of a cycle you may become mayor. I think mayors have a small say so about the tax rates in that particular town and get a dividend. Even if you are not the mayor you will get a small amount of pay for your hunting.

plus normal escape scrolls will return you to your home town
and mayors can jack the taxes up a little which is why they are not supposed to be in the game cause bots will become mayors jack the rates up and ebay thier profits. |

its the reentry of the village registration system. If it is the same as it was before it was taken out, once your registered to it every week you can go get adena generated from a small portion of the taxes divided by the people who are registered to it's contribution ratio (amount you've hunted, although it is not known what is counted, I.E> monsters killed, xp gained, ect) The person who is registered to the village that has the highest contribution is elected mayor, and gets a little extra adena and ability to adjust tax in that town a bit (I don't think this was functioning then... might of been though, I don't remember). The amount you recieve is an extreemly insignificant, and it is generally more of a fun thing than an actual useful thing... I was mayor of woodbec once. You can look on my site at update from August 16th, 2004 (2004-08-16) for some screenshots of mayor's dialog boxes. The amounts of adena given at the bottom, the one that says 'paid to you by village' is the one everyone gets, the 'Secretary of the mayor gave you' is the one you get for being mayor. combined the total is under 5k though, for just over 750k income to the castle... as you can see its an incredibly small/insignificant amount, just a little fun side show... I havn't tested it much other than registering to a town, to see if it still functions the same now, so it may of been revamped.... it was origonally disabled because bots would register to the big towns that might of actually made some decent amount of money and since they hunt 24/7 noone could compete with their contribution... only reason I was able to get mayor is cause I registered to the smallest out of the way town (woodbec) that bots wouldn't bother registering to qq

So looks like for a player like me, there is not really any point to be a resident, other than the fun factor. ok thx!

mayor status didnt matter if you hunted in the area where the "mayorship" is granted.
ie you could be mayor of oren and hunt FI exclusively |
