Halloween Event!

Many of you have asked for more information about what we are doing for Halloween. We're still finalizing details but I will give you some info for now

Dates - Wednesday, October 28 through Wednesday, November 4

The event will begin after regularly scheduled maintenance and end with the next week's maintenance.

There will be an out-of-game contest that goes along with the in-game event. The contest will begin Thursday, October 1 and there will be prizes. More info to come on that soon, but here's your first hint:

You wake up with a melody running through your head. Your feeling quite creative today - you just feel like singing for some unknown reason.

So here is a question for those veterans out there - I have asked when the Lineage (North America) release anniversary is, but have gotten several different answers. I've been told Oct 29 (which would make it right at the same time we are doing the Halloween event), I have a calendar with it marked as Oct 25, but then I found a webpage that had a date in May. So I figured the easiest way to get an answer was to throw it out there to you guys since you know much more than I do about the game! Anybody know when the official North America release date was?

I want to say it was sometime in the Springish time. I do not remember it kicking off in the fall. I couldn't play right after it went from beta at the time as I had no means to pay for it, and my parents sure as heck were not down for that. Once I secured a means of paying I came back.

wikipedia has its release date as September 3rd, 1998 and mmogchart.com lists lineage release as september 1998 as well. mmosite.com and zam.com lists Oct 23, 2001... think it all depends on what region/version your talking about.

ironicly wikipedia also links to the phishing site NC lost a buncha people to in external links as the 'official lineage forums'

on another side note, while it doesn't have release dates on it, http://www.gamasutra.com/view/featur...ng_goes_xl.php is a good read... the way NC treated the people that made lin and thus all their money for them is so sad, I don't think many if any of the people who origonally programmed and designed lineage still work for them. Discarding what some new guy or exec who doesn't know what hes doing says sure, but, to ignore the people who made the game that put your company on the map like that, quite sad.

Depends what date you're looking for, because Lineage actually had two launch dates for NA. Tried to go through the logs of my old fansite I started at beta times, but seems I have not marked the dates in there -_-

But how I remember it, the game was first launched without too much fuss at the end of May of 2001, and that's when beta ended and game turned into pay to play. However, the game was not getting too much attention and when NCSoft hired Richard Garriot A.K.A Lord British and his Destination Games, Lineage got second launch with lots of marketing all over the media (example from Finnish gaming and computer magazine I had linked in my fansite, hehe). This second launch was later at the year and probably the reason why you're getting that date of 25th October when asking around at office. Now when went to search the web, that's the date when the official date for second launch seems to be.

For us who participated in beta tho, the true launching date would however be the end of May I think.
